How to Clean Dog Urine

Dog urine odor is a common problem for many dog owners. For whatever reason your dog can and will have accidents in your home and many times you can miss these spots and you won’t know it until the smell hits you in the nose. With the proper tools and the proper techniques, you will find out that cleaning up after your dog can be easier than you think.
How To Remove Dog Urine
Some causes of inappropriate urination can be a new puppy that isn’t properly house trained, a dog that urinates when she gets excited or nervous, your dog could have a urinary tract infection or other health problem making it hard for him to control himself, dogs are very territorial and they like to let all other dogs know by marking. If you don’t effectively clean up these spots, dogs, with such a strong sense of smell will go back and mark the same spots again and again. You need to effectively clean the urine stain and remove the urine odor completely to avoid repeat performances.
There are many home remedies for removing dog urine. Some of these include baking soda, club soda, detergents, water and vinegar, or bleach. These can get messy and compound your problem even more, and most of the time they don’t even work at all. Never under any circumstances use an ammonia based cleaning product you will just be encouraging your dog to pee again in the area you are trying to clean.
Do not use fragrance based products as they are just made to cover up and mask the offending odors. When it is all said and done the odor problem will return and you will be right back where you started. You need to use products that are formulated to remove dog urine odors and stains.

First off you need to determine where the odor source is coming from. You can do this by smelling the areas until you find the strongest odor point or you can also use a black light to find urine stains in your carpet and upholstery. Once you determine where your odor source is coming from it is time to properly clean the stains and eliminate the odors.
The most important step is to get out as much of the urine as possible before applying any odor eliminator. If the trouble spot is still wet or damp soak up the urine with paper towels, shop rags, hand towels, even old newspapers will work. Follow this up by spraying the affected area with KO Pet Spot and Stain Remover.
Embedded Dog Urine in Carpet and Furniture
If you have urine soaked into the carpet padding or furniture cushions you will have to make sure you can get the odor removal formula into the odor source. You will doing this by use of an injection syringe. You inject KO Odorless Odor Eliminator into the carpet padding or furniture cushions every 2-3 inches encompassing the affected area. After each injection you want to firmly press down on the spot with your fist or the palm of your hand. As you release the pressure you will be wicking the formula deeply into the padding which allows contact to be made with the odor source. As the padding or cushions dry the odor eliminator continues to work effectively removing any urine odor present.
Surface Dog Urine in Carpet and Furniture
Removing dog urine from the surface of carpets, upholsteries, and furniture requires an absorbent towel and a nylon bristle cleaning brush. You can also use the cleaning brush to agitate the fabric and break down the dried dog urine making it easier to lift out the stain. Depending on the severity of the odor you might need to brush the formula in with the cleaning brush. Allow the affected area to dry and check your results. As with all odor problems some are more severe than others so a repeat treatment might be necessary.

The most effective treatment is to run these items through the washing machine. You can pre-treat all spots and stains with KO Pet Spot and Stain Remover then add 6-8oz to wash cycle. Make sure to add 6-8oz of KO Odor Eliminator also to remove any embedded urine odors. Dry in dryer or by line hanging.
